A "Do The Right Thing Campaign" Initiative
Efforts of the Police have been deepened in developing connections with communities to promote and strengthen partnerships to solve public safety problems. However, challenges such as, poor funding, inadequate community supports and participation in security affairs, insufficient welfare, human rights abuse, meddlesome attitudes of political godfathers in police-community affairs, and unnecessary use of coercion and threats to enforce public compliance with rules, have frustrated every effort of the Police in achieving effective community policing. There is need to discuss on new approaches and tactics in law enforcement that gives priority to collaborative partnerships between the police and the community to address crime, maintain public safety, and improve the overall well-being of communities. This calls for dedicated support programs and projects channeled to achieve a shift from the traditional reactive policing to a proactive policing which is focused on building trust and engaging with the community in problem-solving on issues of security and safety. Resources and tools for effective community Policing are farfetched and in a clime with dynamic security issues, the Police needs to, as a matter of contingency, assess its strength on a regular bases and find a way to navigate through it weaknesses by prioritizing on maximizing what is at their disposal to achieve the goals of an effective community policing. Sourcing for these resources can be frustrating and cumbersome given the current economic downturn. We as an organization believe in the Nigeria Police Force and we are ready to assist in increasing assess to resources and tools within the various stakes and beneficiaries of police services in the nation. This is our focus on this project.
WHY EMPHASIS ON COMMUNITY POLICING?
The nation is still battling with lingering security challenges and, the Police and other security apparatus of the government are striving with minimum resources to guarantee safety and security across the country.
Security threats are on increase, posing a great threat to governance at all levels with every state having a fair share of the ugly experiences. The effort of the Police and other Security agencies needs to be strengthened through an inclusive security services that partners with the community to promote a robust collaborative fights against criminality and all forms of threats to the safety of the people.
With the recent extension of the service period of IGP Kayode Egbetokun, it is an opportunity to deliver more on his promises of which he stated in his inaugural speech to deliver on the new policing vision which will focus among others on,‘implementing a new Recognition and Reward system to better motivate and encourage our dedicated personnel; and community policing, through a more vibrant engagement of the police community relations committee (PCRC), and the establishment of a citizens engagement focus group’.
Community policing stands as an important tool to maximize on communal efforts in achieving public safety while also impacting positively on the improvement of the welfare and motivation of officers.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECTS
- To identify and create an assembly of all major stakes among the beneficiaries of police services to discuss on common issues with community policing in their environments.
- To identify, in this phase of emerging dynamic threats around the communities and, how to assist the Police regularly in mitigating such threats through mobilization and campaigns to raise awareness among communities to support the efforts of the Police in maintaining order around the neighborhood.
- To brainstorm and seek new approaches and strategies that build and priorities on strong partnership among communities and the police to become active participants in ensuring their safety, this collaborative approach will ensures that policing tactics are tailored to the specific needs of each community.
- To create and secure a proactive problem solving policing by working with the community to identify potential issues before they escalate into major problems, this will encourage communities to institute early interventions programs to deter potential offenders before they commit crimes.
- In recent times, a few individuals, entrepreneurs and organizations are giving very impressive supports to the Police. However, more hands can be brought in to join in contributing to boost and encourage officers. These projects will identify and collaborates with communities, individuals and organizations to win their supports to the Nigeria Police. More supports will motivate the officers to deliver quality security services.
- The projects are expected to strengthen the trust between the police and the community. By creating awareness for an improved communication and collaboration between Police officers and residents. Having the trust of the community means that they willing to report misconducts and crimes, and in turn will reduce the crime rate in the nation.
- This project will thrive as one of the Police and People Focused Projects to provide effective tools to reduce the crime rate through campaigns and community mobilization to the task of supporting the Police Force to keep community members safe.
- We seek to promote and project accountability among police officers and the communities by establishing a strong foundation of transparency, interaction, and collaboration with the communities they serve. When officers have personal relationships with community members, they look out for their best interest and focus on keeping those people safe.
BENEFITS OF THE PROJECT
- Security Planning for Community This project will create a platform to develop a comprehensive security plans tailored to the unique circumstances and experience within the community’s needs.
- Strengthening of Emergency Preparedness: There is need for robust preparation to handle contingency. The current security clime require a trusted and rapid contingency team for various scenarios, ensuring rapid responses to unexpected situations will be achieved when there is a solid partnership with communities.
- Improvement on the standard of Security in the Communities The war against insecurity in the community can be won when there is an improvement in the standard of security management in and around our environments. Community members will be able to foster new visions and directions with the Police that they perceived will promote effective and dependable security operations within their environs.
- Improve intelligence gathering and operation There is need to improve on intelligence gathering and surveillance by the security men. This project will create a proactive security response that can give accurate predictions on crime. The Community needs to be encouraged to plan on boosting and supporting the security personnel with modern technologies, training, motivations, and logistics that will enhance their operational capacities and give a new phase to the fight against crime control in their environs.
- Funding– Currently, it is a necessity to beef up security personnel as well as security infrastructure to secure a safe environment and prepare for uncertainties. Planning for funding becomes imperative to seek avenues where the various stakes in the communities can source for funds, infrastructures and technologies to support the Police to achieve efficient and effective security services.
- Synergy among the Communities To create a common front to mitigate insecurity across the communities in the country. To prevent, to react, and to rebuild-when faced with human protection claims among members that are unable to give quick responses to such threats and gain support from their networking platforms with the Police.
- Encourage a Culture of Safety among Community Units
This project will foster a culture of safety awareness within the social units in the nations by promoting the importance of security consciousness among individual and corporate bodies thereby demonstrating a collective commitment to lead a more safety-conscious community.
- Give Priorities to Security: The security situation in every domain is one of the issues seeking immediate attention and must be prioritized. When the environment is safe, the economic and social investments will be maximized and preserved.
